The hub carrier houses the handbrake mechanism and all this needs to be removed before any refurbishment can occur.

First, remove the handbrake adjuster. Pop the spring off (it's very tight, so be careful). Then remove the adjuster:

Next, remove the two bolts holding the handbrake shoes in place. A couple of things to note: the bolts are two different lengths so take note of which one goes in which side. Also, while I have a ring spanner on the bolt here you can't remove them completely that way as they will hit the hub and you won't be able to remove the spanner.

Next, remove the four bolts at the back of the hub. These hold the bearing carrier to the hub, so at this point you get a disassembled hub:

The final piece to remove is the block that the handbrake pull sits on. This is just two bolts:
